Sheriff: Maryland High School Shooter Died by Shooting Himself

Austin Wyatt Rollins, the 17-year-old who opened fire on classmates at Great Mills High School in Southern Maryland last week, injuring one and killing another, died by shooting himself in the head, officials investigating the case said Monday.

According to details released by the St. Mary's County sheriff's office, Rollins parked his car at 7:50 a.m. and walked through the school's main entrance two minutes later, reports the Baltimore Sun.

At 7:57 a.m., he approached classmate Jaelynn Willey, 16, and shot her once in the head with his father's Glock 9-millimeter gun. That bullet also struck 14-year-old Desmond Barnes in the leg.

After firing the gun, Rollins kept walking through the school, where he was confronted by school resource officer Deputy First Class Blaine Gaskill just after 8 a.m. Their weapons went off simultaneously 31 seconds later, with Rollins shooting himself in the head and Gaskill shooting Rollins in the hand, officials said.

The shot Rollins fired was fatal, according to the sheriff's office.

VIDEO: Ohio Officers Save Choking Baby

Body cam footage shows two police officers in Shaker Heights, OH, rescuing a choking baby, as the mother's vehicle was stopped in the middle of traffic.

Officers Ryan Sidders and Alex Oklander saw the mother Tamica Pruitte's vehicle with its emergency lights blinking and pulled up behind it to offer help, reports said.

"The baby had what seemed to be milk coming out of her mouth and nose," Oklander told Fox 8 Cleveland. "That's when we administered the back thrusts." After several attempts, the baby's airway was cleared.

FBI Agent Dies of Brain Cancer Linked to 9/11 Attack on Pentagon

Special Agent Melissa Morrow (Photo: ODMP)
For 10 weeks after 9/11, FBI Special Agent Melissa S. Morrow spent hours upon hours sifting through the toxic terrorist crash site at the Pentagon.

Fifteen years later, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Morrow, 48, died Thursday in what federal officials called a line-of-duty death due to her exposure to the poisons unleashed by the fiery airliner crash in the nation's capital, reports the New York Daily News.

"Strength & courage come in many forms; most give some, some gave all," tweeted her colleagues in the Kansas City field office. "(Special Agent) Morrow will be remembered most as a warrior. She will forever be considered a hero."

Jurors Convict 35-Year-Old of Killing New Orleans Police Officer

A man accused of killing a New Orleans police officer in 2015 was convicted Saturday, as jurors rejected his insanity defense.

Travis Boys was convicted of killing New Orleans PD Officer Daryle Holloway in 2015 (Photo: Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office)

After a six-day trial, the jury deliberated just 66 minutes before finding 35-year-old Travis Boys guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 46-year-old Daryle Holloway, a 22-year veteran officer. Boys had pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity, reports the Associated Press.

Holloway was shot in a police SUV in June 2015 as he was transporting Boys to jail after an earlier arrest. Boys escaped the vehicle and was caught the next day after an intense manhunt.

The verdict found that Boys was not suffering from a mental disease or defect and understood the difference between right and wrong when he fatally shot Holloway, Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro said in a statement.

Boys will receive a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole when state District Judge Karen Herman sentences him May 3.

Video: 2 Texas Officers Injured Responding to 911 Call, Suspect Dead

VIDEO: 2 Texas Officers Injured Responding to 911 Call, Suspect Dead

One police officer was shot and a second was hurt while running for safety after a gunman fired at them from inside a southeast Austin, TX, home Sunday night. The SWAT team then reportedly fatally shot the suspected shooter as he tried to run away from the home with a woman.

Austin PD says officers were called to a duplex on Ponciana Drive at 10:50 p.m. when someone called 911 and was disconnected. Officers knocked on one side of the duplex and a resident told them they did not call 911, reports KXAN.

When the officers tried the second unit, there was no answer. As they were leaving, Austin PD says someone fired on their officers, shooting one in the arm. The second officer hurt his hand and knee while running for safety.

The SWAT team was called out and officers heard gunshots inside as they told the suspect to come out. Police eventually used a robot to breach the front door. Then the suspect ran out with a woman. A SWAT officer shot the suspect and he was pronounced dead.

VIDEO: Civilians Come to Aid of Arizona Officer in Struggle with Suspect

Justin Erickson and another didn't think twice about jumping into action to help a Chandler, AZ, police officer arrest 32-year-old Mathew Martinez, who was wanted for drugs and shoplifting.

"It was super clear that he was resisting arrest," Erickson told AZ Family. "He wasn't going to go down without a struggle."

According to Erickson, Martinez and the officer were rolling around on the ground.

"I stood over his leg and lowered myself down a little to make sure he didn't get his foot up and kick the officer," said Erickson. "We then tried to grab his arm out from behind his back. Once we got his arms out, I asked (the officer) 'do you need me to hold his arms down so you can get your cuffs?'"

Chandler Police Det. Seth Tyler said they're grateful for what the good Samaritans did, especially how they spoke to the officer first, before jumping in the fight.

Anti-Police Activists Get Say in Chicago Police Reforms

French Politician Arrested for Celebrating Death of Officer at Hands of Terrorist

A French far-Left politician has been arrested for apparently celebrating the death of a gendarme hailed as a hero for offering himself in place of a hostage taken by an Islamist gunman.

StĆ©phane Poussier was detained after tweets posted from his account said: “Every time a gendarme gets whacked… I think of my friend RĆ©mi Fraisse,” an environmental protester who died after police threw a concussion grenade during demonstrations in 2014.

“And this time it was a colonel, great! It also means one less vote for (President Emmanuel) Macron,” said the tweet, which was quickly deleted and the Twitter account closed after it sparked an outcry.

Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame was shot and stabbed after taking the place of a woman whom Radouane Lakdim, who had already killed three people, was using as a human shield during his attack on Friday at a supermarket in Trebes in southwestern France.

On Sunday police arrived at Poussier’s home in Normandy and took him into custody. He may be charged with an offence known as apology for terrorist acts, for which the maximum penalty is seven years in prison and a fine of about $125,000, the Telegraph reports.
