VIDEO: Colorado Officers Suspended for Leaking Video of Man's Traffic Stop Tirade
When Aurora, CO, police pulled over a man for driving 65 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone, they probably didn't know that the driver was the son of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. But in an expletive-filled roadside tirade, 22-year-old Jordan Hancock made them fully aware of the relationship.
The entire interaction was captured on the body-worn camera affixed to Officer Paul McClendon's uniform.
According to Fox News, McClendon showed the video to Officer Paul Timmons, who recorded it with his cellphone and shared it with Officer Judy Gurley-Lutkin.
Now, Timmons and Gurley-Lutkin have each received a one-day suspension for the video being leaked.

Security Guard Fired for Filming, Not Helping, Texas Officer in Struggle with Suspect
The president of the Houston Police Union said in a Tweet that the security guard who captured video on her cell phone of a police officer involved in a violent confrontation with a resistive subject—rather than assist the officer in getting the suspect into custody—has been fired from her job.
The incident began when police initiated a traffic stop on a car that was suspected to be connected to an aggravated robbery and shooting in Harris County. The driver—17-year-old Davon Shavelle Miller—got out of the car and fled. The officer caught up to Miller, and a scuffle ensued.
When Miller reportedly attempted to grab the officer's gun, he yelled, "Help me! Stop f---ing filming and help me!"
The security guard continued to record the incident, while a citizen intervened to help the officer.
Joe Gamaldi said on Twitter, "I contacted security company that employed the security guard. They handled the issue swiftly, she is no longer employed w/the company. In addition they expressed their love, support, admiration for HPD officers."
Miller has been charged with felony disarming a police officer for attempting to take the officer's gun, Gamaldi said.

Detroit Police Say Doorbell Camera Video on Social Media May Hinder Investigations
The Detroit Police Department is asking citizens who have doorbell cameras and other security systems—which have rapidly become popular with home owners—to resist the urge to post video of a suspected burglar on social media, at least until the department can begin its own investigation.
According to the Detroit Free Press, police are warning citizens that posting "neighborhood watch" videos and other information on Nextdoor and Facebook images of suspected offenders can create unnecessary hysteria, particularly if an arrest has already been made that the public doesn't know about.
Nextdoor says on its website that among the benefits of joining the social media site is the ability to "quickly get the word out about a break-in."
But law enforcement officials also said that while home security video footage can be helpful to police investigations, posting it online can create problems that may end up actually hindering an investigation. Further, the individual posting the video online could expose themselves to further victimization, in the event that the offender decides to retaliate for being shown on video.
Peter Henning—a Wayne State University law professor and former federal prosecutor—told the Detroit Free Press that posting videos on social media may also hinder the ability to do an undercover investigation.

Pennsylvania Town Considers Disbanding Police Department after Fatal OIS
Officials in East Pittsburgh (PA) are considering dissolving that town's police department after a controversial officer-involved shooting in June, according to the Tribune-Review.
The city council met to discuss options for alternate police services—including the Allegheny County police or the police department of a neighboring municipality—but no decision has been made.
The council hopes to vote on the matter at its public meeting next month.
Council President Dennis Simon told the Tribune-Review that the borough has been considering dissolving the police force for years.

Arkansas Police Officers Receive Commendations for Heroism on Duty
When Sergeant Travis Goforth of the Pine Bluff (AR) Police Department came upon a house fire in July, he believed there might be someone inside. He pounded on the front door and eventually a woman answered. He informed her that there was a fire, entered the home, and picked up a small child and got them out of the house.
Goforth was one of several Pine Bluff officers to receive certificates of appreciation during the recent Coffee with the Chiefs event, according to the Pine Bluff Commercial.
Sergeants Lynn Wright and Cassandra Briggs-McAfee and officers Lakendra Williams, Rob Gober and Martino Green were recognized for their actions in locating a suspect wanted for rape and residential burglary
Officers Phillip Meacham and Marquis Creggett were commended for apprehending a man and a woman who allegedly broke into cars parked at a local hotel.
The event—sponsored by Interested Citizens for Voter Registration and held at the Pine Bluff Country Club—also highlighted the actions of Sergeants Shawn Davis and Goforth and officers Abdias Valdez, Rick Bunting, Nathan Smith, Kristen Pennington, Kelsey Collins, Marquis Creggett, Lakeisha Jones, and Enrique Soto for their response to a shooting in July.

NYPD Union Offers $500 Reward to Citizens who Help Police with Violent Suspects
The NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association announced on Wednesday that the union would give a $500 reward to citizens who come to the aid of cops in violent confrontations with suspects resisting arrest, according to AMNY.com.
"Too often we see police officers engaged in violent struggles with perpetrators while members of the public stand by and take videos of the incident with their cellphone cameras," said SBA president Ed Mullins in a statement. "This has got to stop, and hopefully this program will incentivize Good Samaritans to do the right thing."
Some NYPD officials were quick to state that the reward program could present some legal liability in the event that a Good Samaritan is injured in a confrontation with a suspect, or if that individual goes from Good Samaritan to Vigilante.
"The NYPD encourages people to support their cops by calling 911," said NYPD spokesman Phil Walzak. "The department doesn’t want to see people put in harm’s way unnecessarily to collect a reward."

3 Texas Students Arrested for Allegedly Threatening School Shooting
Three seniors at Taylor (TX) High School were arrested on charges of terroristic threat after students reported to school authorities the trio's conversation about committing a school shooting, according to KHOU-TV.
Police arrested three boys—each one 17 years of age—after a student overheard them discussing detailed plans to coordinate an active shooting at the school involving explosives and firearms.
After hearing the reports of the shooting plans, a Taylor detective and a school resource officer that were on campus were able to quickly investigate the claims and arrest all three of the students, according to KHOU.
The school district posted on its Facebook page, "As soon as we learned about the threatening comment, we immediately involved the Taylor Police Department and they quickly investigated the situation. The case is still under investigation, but there is no danger to students. As this investigation is ongoing and involves students, we are limited to the details we can provide."

Florida Police Train to Patrol Beaches on ATVs to Reduce Crime
Officers with the Miami-Dade (FL) Police Department recently took part in a training event in Key Biscayne during which they became certified to drive ATVs on beaches and other outlying areas in order to respond to calls for service.
The officers trained to maneuver the vehicles in deep sand and thick grass, which can make steering more challenging than on flat, even terrain.
According to WPLG-TV, the department has recently purchased two new ATVs to add to its existing fleet. The ATV program is particularly focused on responding to accidents and incidents which can be difficult to get to in standard patrol vehicles.
