Pro-Police Group Declines Invite from NFL's Jets Over Player's Celebration of Cop Killing
The NFL's New York Jets wanted to partner with Blue Lives Matter this season, but the pro-police group has declined — claiming the NFL doesn’t respect officers, and flagging the Jets for signing a player who once posted an image of an officer’s throat being slashed on social media.
“With the NFL season right around the corner, there is no better time to open up a conversation about how your business/organization can benefit from a partnership with the New York Jets,” reads a Tuesday email from the Jets’ Anthony Bulak to Blue Lives Matter founder Joe Imperatrice.
But Imperatrice spiked the proposal within minutes. “Although I’d love to work with an NFL team right now I feel it is not the right time. All over the United States players feel entitled to disrespect our first responders, our military members both past and present and our flag. These players make more money in a season than some people make in a lifetime and their ‘Issues’ are made up, exaggerated, and more times than not false,” he responded, according to emails shared with The Post.
Bulak tried to smooth things over by pointing out that no Jet has knelt during the national anthem, the New York Post reports.
But Imperatrice fired back that the Jets just signed running back Isaiah Crowell, who once posted to Instagram a grisly illustration of a dark figure slashing a cop’s throat.
“If I am correct the JETS may have signed an individual who depicted a Grim Reaper slicing the throat of a police officer,” Imperatrice wrote, including a photo of the controversial 2016 social media post.
Crowell, who played for the Cleveland Browns at the time, removed the image and apologized but was not disciplined.

Video: Florida Motor Deputy Critically Injured in Wreck
A Clay County, FL, sheriff's deputy was critically injured in an on-duty crash late Sunday morning in Orange Park, authorities said.
It happened about 11 a.m. while Traffic Deputy Ben Zirbel, a 12-year veteran of the Clay County Sheriff's Office, was riding his agency-issued motorcycle on Blanding Boulevard at Camp Francis Johnson Road, just south of Kingsley Avenue.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the traffic deputy was traveling south when the driver of a pickup truck on northbound Blanding Boulevard attempted to turn left onto Camp Francis Johnson Road.
FHP Sgt. Dylan Bryan said the driver of the Dodge Dakota pickup, which was towing a lawn trailer, failed to yield the right of way to the deputy, causing the motorcycle to collide with the trailer.
Bryan said the deputy was thrown from the motorcycle. Troopers said Zirbel, 40, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where he was in critical condition at last check, News4Jax reports.
The Highway Patrol said the driver of the pickup, a 35-year-old Orange Park man, was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with investigators.
Charges are pending, according to the Highway Patrol. Troopers continue to investigate the crash.

Union President: California's Use-of-Force Reform Bill Endangers Police
Police say a police reform bill in Sacramento is bound to endanger the lives of police officers. Assembly Bill 931 would replace the reasonable force standard with allowing cops to use lethal force only when necessary.
Craig Lally President of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, says the proposed legislation was crafted by the ACLU, KABC radio reports.
“The ultimate goal of the ACLU on this bill is to incarcerate police officers. This bill will either cost police officers their lives or their jobs. It’s the ultimate in Monday morning quarterbacking.”

Video: Trump Honors Immigration Officers at White House Event
President Donald Trump used a White House event Monday to honor officers of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Customs and Border Protection.
“We love you, we support you, we will always have your back,” Trump said. He added: “For America to be a strong nation, we must have strong borders.”
Trump has assailed some Democratic lawmakers for seeking to abolish ICE ahead of the November midterm elections. In a letter to state and local leaders, Trump wrote that ICE workers had been subjected to a “nationwide campaign of smears, insults and attacks” by politicians “catering to the extreme elements in our society,” Q13Fox reports.
Republican Sen. David Perdue of Georgia, who has worked closely with the administration on immigration legislation, said he struggled to see the point of eliminating the federal agency, likening it to someone saying, "I want to get rid of the Marines."
"I just think it's unconscionable, and frankly, I think it's downright unpatriotic and treasonous," Perdue said.

VIDEO: NYPD Officers Verbally Abused on Streets, Not Allowed to Respond
NYPD officers are increasingly being subjected to vicious verbal abuse on New York City streets — and doing next to nothing about it — because of a hands-off policy that’s being preached from the top, law enforcement sources told The New York Post.
In the latest in a string of caught-on-video examples of brazen disrespect and abuse toward officers, a group of six uniformed officers is subjected to an blue-language tirade hurled by a man who had fit the description of a suspect but turned out not to be their man.
The officers allowed the 20-year-old to videotape himself going on an offensive, foul-mouthed tirade against them for nearly five minutes before one of the officers finally did something despite all but one of his fellow cops walking away, the video shows.
Some law enforcement sources said the incident once again illustrates the ridiculous hands-off approach that officers have been trained in.
“Your hands are tied,’’ a source said.
Disrespect for officers has gotten so bad that Sergeants Benevolent Association president Ed Mullins sent a letter to Police Commissioner James O’Neill last week blasting him for the “lawlessness and complete lack of respect for police officers that has been so blatant under your tenure.”

Tucson Police Use Mannequins to Convince Drivers to Slow Down
Tucson Police's Operation Division South Motor Squad took a different and non-traditional approach to help raise awareness for safe driving last week.
According to the department, mannequins were placed at different intersections around Tucson in an effort to lower collision statistics and urge drivers to pay better attention to their driving and what is around them.
The mannequins were dressed like officers and placed in and around police vehicles near intersections that are or have been known for vehicle crashes, ABC15 reports.
Tucson police say the campaign will continue this week.

VIDEO: Family Expected to Sue Charlotte Police Over 2016 Fatal OIS That Sparked Riots
The family of Keith Lamont Scott, who was shot and killed by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer in September 2016 in an incident that sparked days of rioting and protests in the city, plans to file a lawsuit against the city and the police department, according to sources.
Scott was shot and killed by police Sept. 20, 2016, outside his apartment in the University area.
The district attorney determined the officer who pulled the trigger was justified in the shooting. CMPD also cleared the officer of any wrongdoing in its internal investigation.
Last year, the Citizens Review Board, which investigates complaints about police conduct, split four to four on the question of whether police acted correctly.
Sources told Channel 9 the Scott family could file their case against the city and police department as early as Tuesday.
