ISIS ‘Caliphate’ Defeat is Near, Top Pentagon Officials Say

The defeat of the “caliphate” that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria claimed in Syria is near, top Defense Department officials said at the Pentagon.

DoD Enhances Support for U.S. Border Security Mission, Spokesperson Says

Defense Secretary James N. Mattis agrees border security is national security and is working closely with the Homeland Security secretary to enhance Defense Department support, Dana W. White, the chief Pentagon spokesperson, said.

DoD Extends Sympathy to Families of Service Members Killed in Separate Accidents

The Defense Department extends its deepest sympathies and prayers to the families and friends of the four Marines who died in a helicopter training accident in California and an Air Force Thunderbirds pilot who died in an F-16 crash in Nevada, a Pentagon spokesperson said.

With a grey-speckled snout and upright shoulders, Beci, a military working dog assigned to the 49th Security Forces Squadron, trots across the platform. Beci retired March 16 after nine years of faithful service to the Air Force. Dogs like Beci are an essential asset to the Air Force.

Thunderbirds aircraft mishap

A U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds pilot was killed when his F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed over the Nevada Test and Training Range April 4, 2018, at approximately 10:30 a.m. during a routine aerial demonstration training flight. The identity of the pilot is being withheld for 24-hours pending next of kin notification. An investigation is being conducted into the cause of the mishap.
