Arrested Ohio Woman Attacks Officer with OC Spray from Back of Patrol Vehicle

VIDEO: Arrested Ohio Woman Attacks Officer with OC Spray from Back of Patrol Vehicle

Video recorded in the back of a Columbus, OH, police cruiser shows a woman and a police officer spraying OC at each other Wednesday morning.

Video shows 26-year-old Quivonna Bonner handcuffed and without a shirt in the back of a Columbus police cruiser. The video shows her screaming, cursing and making obscene gestures.

According to court documents, Bonner repeatedly told officers she intended to “mace” them when they opened the cruiser door.

Bonner then managed to bring her handcuffed hands to the front of her body and get a can of mace she had hidden on her person, court documents said.

Bonner was charged with assault on a police officer.

According to court records, Bonner was originally arrested out of a disorderly conduct and drug possession case, NBC4 reports.

Trump Tells NRA Convention “Assault” on Second Amendment Over

President Donald Trump spoke to the National NRA Convention in Atlanta Friday and declared that an "eight-year assault" on Second Amendment rights has come to a "crashing end."

Assailing former president Barack Obama’s record on guns, Trump told the crowd, “You have a true friend and champion in the White House.”

The president was received as a hero during his speech, in part for successfully installing a conservative Supreme Court justice, Neil M. Gorsuch, seen as a likely protector of the gun rights, the New York Times reports.

Prisoner Serving Time for Attempted Murder of Officers Escapes in Maryland

Maryland police agencies are looking for escaped prisoner David M. Watson. Watson, serving time for attempted murder of police officers, escaped police custody Friday morning while being transported to a mental evaluation.

Police say they've found “several articles of clothing” in the woods he escaped into. They say they also found his handcuffs and waist chain. It’s unclear if he was wearing leg shackles, WJLA TV reports.

Watson was alleged to have gone on a shooting spree in 2012, targeting police officers' homes on the Eastern Shore of Delaware and Maryland, The News Journal reported.

Watson's friend, Orrin Joudrey, testified against Watson when he was tried in Delaware of attempted murder and Watson received a 106-year prison sentence, the Capitol Gazette reports.

However, when he was tried in Maryland on charges that he had shot at the homes of three Wicomico County law enforcement officers, he was found mentally incompetent to stand trial and was ordered to be committed to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, The Daily Times reported.

Face of Defense: Navy Officer’s Career Follows Unusual Path

Navy Lt. Adam Patterson’s military career hasn’t followed what most people might call the “usual” path. He’s experienced an evolution of sorts, emerging from the sea and taking to the air, starting as a submariner and transitioning to become an aviator. Today Patterson flies a search-and-rescue MH-60 Seahawk helicopter.

A Bath Township, OH, man was arrested earlier this year after he called 911 requesting a police dog to help him track down some heroin that was stolen from him, police say.

The call — made in January, but released to News 5 this week — is one of the strangest calls that Police Chief Mike McNeely has heard in 41 years in law enforcement.

On Eve of Rodney King Riots Anniversary LAPD Chief Says Force Will Never “Fail” City Again

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck has written an editorial for the Los Angeles Times on the 25th anniversary of the Rodney King riots, saying the department will never “fail” the city again.

Beck wrote: “We truly believed that we were at war and that more arrests and tougher policing was the solution to the plague of violence sweeping through the city…

But after years of trying to arrest our way out of the problem, it became obvious that our efforts only contributed to the violence. Worse yet, they alienated the policed to the point that, in retrospect, the riot was inevitable.

We now believe that there is no true safety without public trust, that serving the Constitution by protecting the rights of individuals is the ultimate goal of policing, and that relationships and partnerships are essential to policing in our city.

The LAPD and I were forever changed by the 1992 riots. Sometimes change can occur only because of crisis. It is my promise to Los Angeles that we will never forget those lessons so dearly learned and that we will never fail you again.”

New York State Police to Join Fight Against MS-13 on Long Island

Suffolk County (NY) Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said Thursday state troopers will begin increased patrols of parks and other state-owned land in the Brentwood and Central Islip area to help the county combat the MS-13 gang.

Sini told county lawmakers the gang — suspected in the killings of four young men in Central Islip last week — along with the opioid crisis are the top challenges facing the police department, Newsday reports.

“Obviously, this is a huge issue for Suffolk County and many other communities,” Sini told the legislature’s Public Safety Committee meeting during a marathon three-hour testimony in Hauppauge. “The level of violence is unprecedented.”
