VIDEO: CA Officer Wounded in Las Vegas Concert Shooting Back at Work
An Ontario, CA, police officer who was among those wounded during the Las Vegas shooting massacre last year is back on the job, reports KABC.
"It's been a frustrating and emotional journey," Michael Gracia said. "I miss work. I miss talking with people, so being back here is a blessing."
Gracia was with his fiancée Summer Clyburn on Oct. 1, 2017 in Las Vegas, at the Route 91 Harvest festival, when a gunman opened fire into the crowd. Fifty-eight people were killed and hundreds were left wounded, either by bullets and shrapnel, or trampled as concertgoers tried to escape.
"I survived a horrible incident," Gracia said. "So it's a blessing to be here with my daughter, and my fiancée, and be here at work serving again."
Gracia was struck by a bullet on the left side of his head and suffered brain damage. His fiancée said he had to learn how to eat, drink, and talk all over again.
For the time being, Gracia is taking reports behind the front counter. He said interacting with the public allows him to work on his speech. But he plans to return to patrol.

VIDEO: Fallen Kansas Officer's Son Given Dad's Restored Motorcycle
Kansas City, KS, police Capt. Dave Melton, who was killed in the line of duty, loved motorcycles. His son, also named David, is carrying on that passion and will have a way to remember his father every time he hits the road after being given his newly customized motorcycle.
Hellraisers Fabrication & Cycles in Belton, MO, surprised David on Wednesday with the gift he'll never forget. The shop restored Melton's bike, reports KSHB.
"This is the bike he's always wanted, so it's basically a tribute to him in that way already, but even more with everything that's been done to it," David said, a huge smile on his face.
Melton was killed in the line of duty two years ago, and the community is still honoring him.
Hellraisers added some meaningful touches to the late captain's motorcycle. They spray-painted his badge and badge number on a fresh coat of blue paint. Also inscribed are two sayings he once said to his children: "To the moon and back" and "my little man."

Tennessee Officer Charged with Homicide in Shooting
A Metro Nashville Police officer charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of a man has turned himself in, reports WZTV.
Nashville Judge Michael F. Mondelli found probable cause on Thursday morning against Officer Andrew Delke in the deadly shooting of Daniel Hambrick.
Delke was booked and had bond set at $25,000. It has already been made and Delke was expected to be released the same afternoon. Delke, who had been working a desk job with Metro Police, has been decommissioned.
Prosecutors for D.A. Glenn Funk sought the charge in the wake of Hambrick's fatal shooting by Delke in July. The shooting had drawn scrutiny after Hambrick was reportedly shot while running away from Delke following a traffic stop. The affidavit charging Delke with homicide details a report by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations which states Hambrick was shot four times.
The move is a reversal of a magistrate in Nashville the very same morning, who ruled that there wasn't enough evidence to charge Delke with homicide.

L.A. Man Convicted for Driving Scooter Under the influence
Motorized rental scooters have become a common sight in Southern California since their introduction last year, with their share of critics. On Wednesday, Los Angeles officials reported the city's first conviction for scooting under the influence.
City Atty. Mike Feuer said his office had secured a misdemeanor conviction against Nicholas Kauffroath, 28, who was riding a Bird scooter on a sidewalk in West L.A. when he knocked a pedestrian to the ground and scooted away to a nearby apartment building without stopping to render aid, reports the Los Angeles Times.
When police officers found Kauffroath, Feuer said, his blood-alcohol level was measured at .279, more than three times the legal limit.
Kauffroath pleaded no contest to one count of operating a motorized scooter while under the influence, and one count of hit-and-run, officials said.
Kauffroath was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay a $550 fine, Feuer said. He was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim, complete a three-month DUI program, and stay off scooters while drinking.
"Drinking while operating a vehicle, a bike — or a scooter — is not only illegal, but can lead to serious injury or worse," Feuer said in a statement. "This conviction demonstrates our office's continued effort to enforce our drunk driving laws and make our streets and sidewalks safer."

St. Louis Official Sues City Over Tear Gas at Protest
A St. Louis official who joined protests after former Officer Jason Stockley was acquitted of murder last year in the shooting of drug suspect Anthony Lamar Smith is suing over the police response to the demonstrations, reports the Associated Press.
Democratic Alderwoman Megan Ellyia Green alleges in the federal lawsuit filed Tuesday that police used tear gas on her without justification on Sept. 15, 2017, during a demonstration that followed Stockley's acquittal of first-degree murder in the death of Smith.
Green's lawsuit said she suffered from respiratory problems for six months and remains fearful of police.
Green's attorney, Javad Khazaeli, said the episode was another incident where St. Louis police "unleashed chemical munitions on peaceful citizens."
The lawsuit comes a little more than a week after 14 federal lawsuits were filed accusing police of arresting and roughing up protesters, onlookers, and journalists during a downtown protest two days after the Stockley verdict. Stockley testified that the shooting was in self-defense because Smith was reaching toward a gun in his car. Prosecutors accused Stockley of planting the gun.
Police declined to comment on Green's lawsuit Wednesday but have said in the past that the protests were often violent. Police have noted that 30 officers were injured, including some who still haven't recovered.

Former Texas Deputy Acquitted in Brutality Case
A former Harris County, TX, deputy constable accused of police brutality was found not guilty Wednesday by a Harris County jury, reports the Houston Chronicle.
Jimmy Drummond, 50, was captured on police dash-cam video allegedly kicking the prone and handcuffed David Scherz Jr., then dropping his knee onto the man's back and neck.
During the week-and-a-half-long trial, defense attorneys challenged the circumstances surrounding the incident that was on video, saying the veteran officer was a supervisor who arrived at a "chaotic scene" in which several officers were fighting with several family members of a man with mental health issues.
Jurors in state District Judge Denise Collins court took just an hour Wednesday to find Drummond not guilty of a misdemeanor charge of official oppression. Defense attorney Sam Cammack said the case never should have gone to trial.
If convicted, Drummond would have faced up to a year in prison and the loss of his peace officer's license.

VA Man Convicted of Capital Murder in Deaths of Wife, Rookie Officer
An Army staff sergeant was found guilty Wednesday of 17 charges including three capital murder counts in the fatal shooting of his wife and a Virginia police officer who was on her first shift, reports WTOP.
Ronald Hamilton, 34, of Woodbridge, VA, was charged in connection with the February 2016 fatal shootings of his wife, Crystal Hamilton, and Officer Ashley Guindon, who was just hours into her first shift as a Prince William County police officer.
Hamilton was found guilty of three counts of capital murder: killing a law enforcement officer, killing more than one person in a single event, and killing more than one person within three years. He was also found guilty of attempted capital murder of Officers Jesse Hempen and David McKeown, who were severely wounded during the shooting.
Several officers, including Guindon, responded to Crystal Hamilton’s 911 call within minutes and tried to enter the house to check on her welfare. Ronald Hamilton refused to let them in. One of the officers then kicked open the front door, which is when, police say, Hamilton opened fire with an AK-47 rifle.
Even though police say Hamilton confessed to the shootings after his arrest, he pleaded not guilty.
