Orange County Votes to Join Feds to Oppose California's 'Sanctuary' Law
Not all of California opposes President Donald Trump's immigration policies.
Los Alamitos, a small city in Orange County, voted last week to oppose California's "sanctuary" law. And now the county government is joining the backlash against the state policy, which prohibits local law enforcement from some cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, reports CNN.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday in a closed-door session to join the federal government in a lawsuit against California over the state law that went into effect in January.
Earlier this month, US Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a lawsuit over California's sanctuary policies in an escalating battle between the Trump administration and the Golden State. The lawsuit is over parts of three California laws that are intended to protect undocumented immigrants from federal immigration officials.

Cyberattack Hobbles Atlanta, Affects Police Operations
Atlanta’s municipal government has been brought to its knees since Thursday morning by a ransomware attack — one of the most sustained and consequential cyberattacks ever mounted against a major American city. Employees got the word Tuesday that it was OK to turn their computers on, but not everything was up and running yet.
The hackers responsible left parts of the city’s network tied in knots. Some major systems were not affected, including those for 911 calls and control of wastewater treatment. But other arms of city government have been scrambled for days.
The Atlanta Municipal Court has been unable to validate warrants. Police officers have been writing reports by hand. The city has stopped taking employment applications.
Officials said the ransom demand amounted to about $51,000. The digital extortion aimed at Atlanta, which security experts have linked to a shadowy hacking crew known for its careful selection of targets, laid bare once again the vulnerabilities of governments as they rely on computer networks for day-to-day operations, reports the New York Times.
“We are dealing with a hostage situation,” Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said this week.

VIDEO: Department Hires First Deaf Female Officer in Texas
The newest member of the Dalhart (TX) Police Department is helping the department make history. When Chief David Conner hired 25-year-old Erica Trevino, she became the first female deaf commissioned police officer hired to work at the department and is believed to be the first in the state of Texas.
"It's a passion of mine," says Trevino. "It's not something I just want, it's something God has called me to do. That's what I believe. This truly is a career and I can't tell you how much I look up to the people and I respect how much work the officers put into becoming a police officer."
Trevino tells ABC 7 News she is fluent in four sign languages and can communicate in ways most officers can't when someone is in distress or needs help.
"With Officer Trevino being here that's going to be tremendous asset for those who are hard of hearing or deaf," says Chief Conner. "She will be able to communicate and assist us in that realm as well."

Jury Awards Massachusetts Officer Over $2 Million in Discrimination Lawsuit
A Suffolk County, MA, jury has awarded more than $2 million to a veteran female police officer in Winthrop, finding that the town sexually discriminated and retaliated against her, according to court records.
Judy A. Racow, a police officer for more than 20 years, claimed she was wrongly removed from the detective unit, passed over for other jobs, excluded from training sessions and falsely investigated, according to the complaint, the Boston Globe reports.
Last week, a Superior Court jury agreed, awarding Racow $676,000 for emotional damages, plus $1,352,000 in punitive damages, according to court records.
Police Chief Terence M. Delehanty, who is also serving as the interim town manager, said that an appeal is likely.

VIDEO: Utah Trooper Hit by Skidding Car, Launched into Air
Dashcam footage from a Utah Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle shows the officer on foot as he approaches a car that slid off the highway in Sardine Canyon, when he is suddenly hit from behind by another car that was skidding on the ice and launched into the air.
On Sunday, Sgt. Cade Brenchley became the 11th state trooper to be hit by a car in 2018, while a total of 10 troopers were hit in all of 2017, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.
After he was hit, several passersby stopped to render aid to the trooper and called for help, including the driver who hit him. Among the first responders to the scene were three of Brenchley’s cousins and a couple of childhood friends, he said.
He suffered four broken ribs, a broken shoulder blade and road rash on his face, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Video: Black CHP Sergeant Berated as "Uncle Tom" During Sacramento Protest
VIDEO: Black CHP Sergeant Berated as "Uncle Tom" During Sacramento Protest
Protesters blaming police for the death of Stephon Clark vented their rage at all the California Highway Patrol officers blocking their path on I Street as they attempted to shut down Interstate 5 on Friday.
But one officer was berated more personally and intensely than any other cop from a special CHP tactical unit wearing riot gear that day.
CHP Sgt. Ron Wade, 45, was the lone African American in a group of roughly 30 officers lined up in formation on I Street near the onramp to northbound lanes of Interstate 5.
They called him an “Uncle Tom” and some of the worst names that an African American man can be called by other African Americans. They labeled him a tool for the white man, disparaged his family, his upbringing, the Sacramento Bee reports.

JBL Pulse 3 - Sound You Can See
For the launch of the new JBL Pulse 3, we invited London-based deaf dancer and choreographer Chris Fonseca to dance to the sound of light. Fonseca crafted a hypnotic routine based on the lights and powerful vibrations emitted from the JBL Pulse 3. Every move is in sync to the rhythm, beat and 360-degree light show of JBL's colourful speaker, highlighting the synergy between sound and light in a unique way.
