Jaguars Quarterback Buys Meals for Jacksonville Officers After Video Game Tournament Shooting
Quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Blake Bortles, bought police officers meals after they were tasked with responding to the Sunday shooting at an E-sports tournament that killed three, including the shooter, and wounded.
Bortles had his foundation deliver meals to the police department and penned a handwritten note thanking the officers.
“Thank you for everything that you do! Your service today and every day is greatly appreciated,” Bortles wrote.
Big shout out to Blake Bortles, @BB5Foundation, and Mambos Cuban Cafe for delivering all of this food to the officers that have been working the recent tragedy. It’s been a long couple days and we are so appreciative for your kindness. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/pd4n4FHBKI
— Jax Sheriff's Office (@JSOPIO) August 28, 2018
In response to Bortles' kind gift, the officers thanked the quarterback and his foundation, admitting that it had been “a long couple of days.”
Even though officers continued to thank the quarterback for his generosity, his foundation continued to deflect the gratitude back onto the officers, IJR.com.

South Carolina Deputy Injured at Traffic Stop
A Cherokee County, SC, deputy was airlifted from the scene of a traffic stop on Monday night, where he was injured in a rollover incident. The suspect was reportedly trying to flee when his car rolled onto the deputy after turning over in a ditch.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says one of its narcotics deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Cornelius Sentell Mayberry around 10 p.m. Monday night, Fox Carolina reports.
The sheriff's office says Mayberry tried to flee the scene, causing a deputy to reach in the window of his vehicle to stop him. The sheriff says that the vehicle traveled about 20 feet when it went into a ditch and up an embankment, with the deputy's upper body still inside the car. The vehicle then overturned onto the driver's side, pinning the deputy's lower body under the vehicle.
The deputy sustained two broken ankles and a broken leg.

VIDEO: California Deputies Rescue Baby Not Breathing at Traffic Stop
Two Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies are being hailed as heroes for rescuing a 9-month-old boy who was found not breathing during a traffic stop Monday evening in Lakewood.
According to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Tyler Milton saw a vehicle driving erratically about 10:20 p.m.
Milton conducted a traffic stop, and when the vehicle pulled over a man quickly got out with a baby who was unresponsive and not breathing, said Deputy Tracy Koerner.
Milton put out a radio call for help and began trying to resuscitate the child, the spokeswoman said. Deputy Alissa Farrington arrived at the scene within seconds and transported Milton and the boy to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
While en route to the hospital, Milton performed CPR on the baby, who began breathing on his own before they arrived, according to Koerner. The infant was listed in stable condition, ABC7 reports.

FEMA Releases Report on Response to Las Vegas Concert Massacre
Las Vegas police and Clark County firefighters experienced numerous communication problems and failed to follow some protocols on the night of the Oct. 1 mass shooting, according to a federal report released Monday.
But the 61-page report also described the response to the attack — which left 58 concertgoers dead and more than 800 people injured — as “efficient” and “coordinated,” crediting the counter-terrorism training of Las Vegas police.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency created the report with participation from the Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County Fire Department. It took nearly a year to complete and includes 72 lessons learned, the Review-Journal reports.

Georgia Deputies Arrested in Mexico for Gun Possession
On Thursday night, two Crisp County, GA, Sheriff's deputies were arrested in Cancun and taken into custody by Mexican authorities for bringing guns into the country.
According to Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock, Martelle and Shawana Davis were traveling to Cancun for vacation. The pair are married and both work for the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.
Hancock told 13WMAZ the Crisp County Sheriff's Office has a policy in place that allows officers to carry their weapons while off duty. The pair did not violate office policy, but they did violate Mexican law.
"Mexican law says that you cannot bring a firearm into their country," said Hancock. "They're certified law enforcement officers. They're trained to protect people, so they carried their weapons with them thinking in their minds that they are going to do what they do every day. Protect people and protect myself."
Hancock says the pair was handed a fine and released on bond Saturday night. They returned to American soil on Monday morning.

Standoff with Gunman in Las Vegas Complicated by Man Live Streaming Incident
When a witness took to Facebook Live to stream the lead-up to the imminent death of an armed 18-year-old suspect at the hands of a Metro Police SWAT sniper, it “only served to inflame an already intense situation,” Clark County Assistant Sheriff Charles Hank said.
“Obviously, we cannot stop someone from doing this. But we ask the community to think about what is more important: displaying an intense situation on social media or being socially responsible?” Hank said Tuesday afternoon.
For roughly 70 minutes Saturday morning, the Facebook user stood a few yards from officers as they dealt with an erratic and taunt-flinging Roosevelt Brown, who’d been accused of firing a gun at a family member’s apartment.
Several times, police pleaded with the live streamer to go back inside.
He ignored them.
Officers responded shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday to an apartment. People there told them that one of their family members, Brown, had fired a round at someone inside, missing, and then shot a second bullet from the outside, Hank said.
Arriving officers spotted him running away but lost him, Hank said. A perimeter was set up and he emerged from a dumpster in the neighborhood about an hour later.
Shortly after, the Facebook user captured the next 70 or so minutes of the standoff. Brown kneeled with a gun pointed at his head, paced around, sat down, and got on top of a car as he yelled at the officers who desperately pleaded with him to surrender.
A short clip Hank broadcast showed Brown raising his right arm, aiming the gun at officers in front of him. That’s when a Metro SWAT officer fired the single shot that brought Brown down. Brown died later at a local hospital, the Las Vegas Sun reports.
