Survey Finds Americans Want Police to be More Proactive
Key findings from a recent public opinion survey commissioned by the National Police Association were released Monday showing strong support for proactive policing that reduces the number of people committing crimes and the number of crime victims.
Survey participants overwhelmingly said recent media attacks on police and law enforcement have caused officers to be more reluctant to attempt to stop murders and other crimes before they are committed. The survey found participants are concerned law enforcement officers are reluctant to wrestle a criminal suspect to the ground, use a baton, or use any type of force when apprehending a criminal because they fear getting sued or brought up on charges of "police brutality." The vast majority of the survey's respondents support the right of a law enforcement officers to use force to stop a crime in progress, to apprehend a criminal, or to defend themselves from criminal attack.
The majority of respondents rejected the demand by some activists that law enforcement officers not be allowed to carry a gun with over 90% of respondents stating law enforcement should not be disarmed.
Other key survey findings:
The majority think local law enforcement should be able to work with immigration officials to deport dangerous criminals who are not citizens.
Over 80% do not agree with the many politicians who are in favor of voting rights to convicted felons.
A majority of participants think schools should be required to teach children respect for law enforcement officers including how to behave if they are stopped by a law enforcement officer.
Respondents said they would rather have law enforcement in their community prevent crime by stopping suspicious people for questioning than have the police wait until a crime has been committed before taking action.

California Officer Adopts Dog She Rescued From Wild Fire
Officers from the Vacaville (CA) Police Department recently helped evacuate dozens of dogs as the fast-moving Nelson Fire threatened the animal shelter they were housed in—and one of those officers has recently adopted one of those dogs.
According to Fox News, Officer Carly Stone and Officer Jennings—along with animal control and the SPCA—quickly evacuated all the animals in about a dozen minutes of frenzied effort.
During the evacuation, Stone encountered a dog named Sean , who she had placed in the front passenger seat of her patrol vehicle.
Sean made himself very much at home there, at one point placing his paws on Stone's right arm as she entered information into her MDT.
"I was looking something up on the computer. He came over and he kinda stood up on the center console and put one of his little paws on my arm or on my hand and kinda looked and wagged his tail. So I was like, 'You’re kinda cute,'" Stone told Fox News.
The next day, Stone and her wife went to the SPCA to see Sean and adopted him.

New Hampshire Officers Post Funny Sign at Site of Marijuana Seizure
" />
Officers with the Marlborough (NH) Police Department recently seized 25 marijuana plants growing illegally on an individual's property.
When they left the area, they also left a sign with a message for the unknown grower.
"Sorry about your luck. Plants may be claimed, in person, at the Marlborough Police Department. Please bring your photo ID."
The department said on its Facebook page, "FACT: Possessing small amounts of marijuana has been decriminalized in NH," adding, "FACT: This doesn’t mean you can grow 25 marijuana plants on someone else's property."
The post concluded, "FACT: Using your fine-tuned horticultural skills to grow delicious organic tomatoes is much more rewarding and much more legal."

Video: Maryland Prosecutor Arrested for DUI Says, "This is Why People Hate the Police"
VIDEO: Maryland Prosecutor Arrested for DUI Says, "This is Why People Hate the Police""
A former prosecutor with the Baltimore State's Attorney’s Office who was arrested for drunk driving in 2017 can be seen in recently released body-worn camera footage berating the arresting officer, saying "This is why people hate the police."
According to video obtained by the Baltimore Sun, Mason was taken into custody and transported to the Towson precinct for processing, where an officer asked her, "Have you got anything on you you're not supposed to have?"
She replied, "Probably just drugs and guns."
Following a search, officers concluded that Mason had neither guns nor drugs on her person.
When the officer tells Mason he has to read something to her, he asks if she understands the English language.
"No," Mason replied.
"What do you understand?" the officer asked.
"I speak Spanish," she replied, indicating that she wanted the officer to read the statement in Spanish.
Later, the officer asked what she does for a living.
The officer asked, "Who do you work for? Who's your boss?"
"Marylyn Mosby," she said.
Mason's attorney said on Wednesday his client was fired after media inquiries about her arrest, but that his client had previously disclosed the arrest to the state’s attorney’s office, according to LiveLeak.

DUI Driver who Injured CHP Motor Officer Sentenced to Probation
The driver who struck and badly injured a California Highway Patrol Officer has been found guilty of felony DUI and sentenced to probation, according to the CHP Contra Costa Facebook page.
Officer Martin Lendway was struck by the DUI driver in January. He suffered major injuries, including two broken legs. Lendway has subsequently undergone multiple surgeries but is "doing very well in his recovery process" the CHP said, and it is hoped that by the end of the year he will be back on his motorcycle.
In the incident, 52-year-old Tammy Peggy Louise Walker had been weaving her 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer through and around traffic when she struck Lendway’s motorcycle and then then crashed her vehicle into a Ford F-150 pickup truck. That truck ended up on top of Lendway, crushing both of his legs
The CHP said in its Facebook post, "Many of us accompanied Martin to his numerous trial dates and court hearings during this process to show the meaning of support and CHP family. Hopefully nobody else will ever have to go through this experience. Sadly, that is highly unlikely due to the number of DUI-related collisions nationwide that cause major life changing injuries. Many of those responsible for those tragic collisions are repeat DUI offenders who repeat the same poor behavior. Please never drive impaired and make better decisions before getting behind the wheel."
