Selva Highlights Need for Nuclear Enterprise Recapitalization

The Air Force launched the first Minuteman III missile off the coast of Florida in 1968 and the same missiles are still in inventory, which is why recapitalization of the entire nuclear triad is needed, Air Force Gen. Paul J. Selva said.

Single Marines Enjoy Nature, Camaraderie at Zion National Park

Revitalizing squadrons, Air Force outlines progress

The task force conducted an Air Force-wide review, driven by Airmen in the field, to promote best practices and identify improvements. Consisting of Total Force Airmen from diverse backgrounds, they reviewed survey data and gathered inputs from across the Air Force through on-line crowd sourcing and face-to-face discussions with nearly 4,000 individuals, including spouses, from 25 different bases representing all major commands, Reserve and National Guard.

In 1949, President Harry Truman signed an amendment to the 1947 National Security Act, which officially created the position of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to help provide unified direction of the services following World War II to address the growing nuclear Soviet threat.
