Florida Police Train to Patrol Beaches on ATVs to Reduce Crime

Officers with the Miami-Dade (FL) Police Department recently took part in a training event in Key Biscayne during which they became certified to drive ATVs on beaches and other outlying areas in order to respond to calls for service.

The officers trained to maneuver the vehicles in deep sand and thick grass, which can make steering more challenging than on flat, even terrain.

According to WPLG-TV, the department has recently purchased two new ATVs to add to its existing fleet. The ATV program is particularly focused on responding to accidents and incidents which can be difficult to get to in standard patrol vehicles.
