Army Sgt. Manthan Patel and his family moved from India to Indiana, where he heard about the Army National Guard. Because he could balance his civilian life and serve in the military, Patel joined the Indiana Army National Guard and became a U.S. citizen before he deployed to Iraq in 2009.
