Mississippi Deputy Struck by 12-Year-Old Girl Fleeing Police in Stolen Car

A 12-year-old girl who reported led police on a chase around Meridian (MS) on Wednesday night struck a Lauderdale County Deputy Sheriff's Deputy who was attempting to deploy spike strips to end the pursuit.

One witness — who says he was right there when the incident happened — told WTOK-TV that the deputy threw the spikes out and blew the tires on the subject's vehicle, but the driver "still kept going and tried to come back around again."

"The officer, I guess he was trying to get the spikes out the road or something, and she ran him over," the witness said.

The deputy was injured, but his injuries are reportedly not life-threatening. The sheriff confirmed that a deputy did fire his service pistol. The girl was not injured and is now in custody and being held at a youth detention center.
