LASD Deputy Injured, Suspect Killed in OIS at Traffic Stop

A deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was shot and wounded in a gunfight that also left one suspect dead Monday night, according to KABC-TV.

The deputy—who was shot once in the right forearm—was transported to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition.

The LASD confirmed a 42-year-old suspect was fatally shot in the incident.

During a Tuesday morning press conference, Sheriff Jim McDonnell said deputies stopped a vehicle they deemed suspicious.

An altercation ensued when one of the individuals in the backseat exited the vehicle. A struggle between the suspect and deputy over control of a gun produced by the suspect occurred.

The wounded deputy has been with sheriff's department for 10 years.
