A man is accused of hitting a Border Patrol agent with a rock and stealing his ATV before he was shot by agents and arrested near the Tijuana River estuary early Sunday, according to KSWB-TV.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was struck at least once by agents who opened fire on the man as he fled on the stolen ATV.
No agents were seriously injured during the incident, according to San Diego police Homicide Captain Thomas Underwood.
San Diego police homicide detectives were in charge of investigating the shooting, because it took place within San Diego city limits.
