2 California Deputies Struck by Gunfire at Municipal Baseball Diamond

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies responding to a disturbance call at a municipal baseball diamond came under fire soon after arriving at the scene. Two deputies were reportedly struck, and at least one suspect was reportedly shot and killed in the incident, according to the San Diego Union Tribune and other sources.

Sheriff Jim McDonnell said at a new conference, "This was a gunfight. These deputies did, from what I understand, an amazing job in taking care of what they were confronted with."

McDonnell said that the two deputies are in serious but stable condition.

"This could have ended up very differently," he said.
