A disgraced former police officer with the Jersey City (NJ) Police Department has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for his role in a scheme to receive tens of thousands of dollars in off-duty pay for jobs he and other officers never performed.
Anthony Iannicco is the third former officer implicated in the scheme to receive a prison sentence in the scandal that has resulted in 11 officers pleading guilty to a variety of charges, including the former chief of police.
Iannicco had been facing as many as 57 months behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit fraud and accept corrupt payments. His sentence was reduced because prosecutors said his cooperation led to three additional guilty pleas.
