A deputy with the Scott County (KY) Sheriff's Office who was shot last week has undergone multiple surgeries, but Sheriff Tony Hampton says that the man remains paralyzed.
Deputy Jaime Morales was shot in the back while Scott County deputies and Georgetown police officers were assisting U.S. Marshals in apprehending 57-year-old Edward Reynolds of Florida.
Morales—a two-year veteran of the sheriff’s department—is now reportedly off the ventilator and hoping to be discharged from the hospital later this week.
According to WKYT-TV, the community in Scott County is trying to raise money so Morales will be able to pay bills purchase things like a wheelchair and a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
